Scholarships

A child is eligible for a scholarship if they don't have the $200 it costs for books and uniforms to attend school. We distribute scholarship applications to all the grade schools and high schools and ask teachers to recommend children who need our help. Those children then fill out 6-page applications. We have a full-time Scholarship Administrator in Belize, Mrs. Annelita Garcia, a teacher, who meets personally with all applicants and confirms their need and their commitment to school. Then, the applications are sent to us in Iowa, where we read every one and award the scholarships.

Back in Belize, our scholars lead their schools and this Foundation. They are the top students. They are proud to be scholarship students. They all do community service projects together representing us. And they help us raise money by enthusiastically participating in all our fundraising events here in the USA. And their parents welcome us into their homes and hearts when we are in Belize several times a year meeting with our scholars and their teachers.

Scholarship Administrator - Miss Olive Woodye

Miss Olive Woodye lives in Punta Gorda, Belize, and is the Foundation's Scholarship Administrator. She holds diplomas and endorsements from Belize Teachers College and the University of the West Indies. From 2005 to 2012, Miss Woodye served as the principal of St. Benedict's RC Primary School.
